Dear 1st and 5th Grade Families,
Our buddy classes have joined forces in creating a scarecrow for the Scarecrow in the Park event help in Bernardston (Oct 24-25). Our scarecrow will be entered into the “Reading” category and must be on display by October 22nd. We are going to need some help from parents to make this happen.
Our scarecrow will be a large open book constructed out of hay bales. The name of the book will be called “Bats at Bernardston Elementary School”. The theme of this book is based on a series of children’s books about what bats do for fun at night in various places written by Brian Lies. Some of his books are; Bats at the Beach, Bats at the Library, Bats and the Ballgame etc. Our buddy classes have gotten together to brainstorm our own story about what bats would do at BES. We would like to take the ideas the kids thought of and make them part of our hay bale scarecrow book. It will include some text, some pictures, a book binding, a cover, etc. We would also like to have an interactive part in which we instruct “readers” to find the bats at the park (we would like to place rubber/plastic bats at various booths around the park – what fun!
See reverse side for supplies needed:
Most of the story construction will happen with the kids during the school day on October 14th and 16th – but we will need some parents to help construct the scarecrow in Cushman Park on the evening of Monday, October 19th at 5:00pm (raindate of the 20th)
